Formula Ford

Michael Schumacher, David Coulthard and Robert Doornbos all have one thing in common; they started their motorsport career in Formula Ford. The series has been the number one step-up class for young and aspiring drivers for many years now.

‘What to do next?’ is the questions many young and ambitious karting-racers ask themselves when they want to grow on into Motorsports? The answer more often than not is: ‘Formula Ford’. The concept of Formula Ford is very similar to that of karting and the small and nimble single-seaters will teach the young individuals skills they will need throughout the rest of their careers.

The Formula Ford is divided into two subdivisions; Duratec and Zetec, named after the engines propelling the cars. The Ford Duractec is a state of the art source of power that puts out as much power as the Zetec despite its smaller displacement. The big advantage the 1.6 litre Duratec engine holds over its bigger 1.8 litre Zetec brother is that it is 30 kilograms lighter. In the Formula Ford Duratec the fastest and newest cars compete. The Zetec class however holds the advantage that it is significantly cheaper than the Duratec.

During the Zolder Superleague the Formula Ford will race a race of 12 laps both on Saturday as well as Sunday. One of the young talents in the Formula Ford might make it as far as the Superleague Formula one day!
