FRéDéRIC VERVISCH SEEKS A HOME FROM HOME

Belgian racing driver Frédéric Vervisch will take a step into the unknown this weekend when he competes in the Superleague Formula Grand Prix of Zolder in Belgium.

All will be familiar when the 24 year-old again takes the wheel of the Luxembourg car. However, any sense of home advantage would be misleading. “I´m really looking forward to the weekend and racing at Zolder, especially as it´s in my home country. But it will be a new experience for me as somehow I´ve never raced at Zolder before. I´ve been there a couple of times but not to race, so that will be interesting!”

Vervisch a past winner of the German and Asian Formula 3 championships, had the Luxembourg car right on-the-pace at the season opener in Assen withough scoring the big points, but he feels that despite the lack of track experience at Zolder, he can finish better this time.

“My first time in a car this year was at Assen, but I made sure that I kept myself as fit as possible, the only thing that I´d done was a bit of karting. In Assen we had some problems with the car and also we were hit in the first race. There were a number of things that went wrong and we needed to work on them, so hopefully this weekend all of those points will be better and we can show what we can achieve.”

With Zolder only 180kms from Luxembourg, Vervisch is hopeful that there will be a lot of interest, both in Belgium and also across the border in the Grand Duchy. “For me it’s a real honour to be driving the Luxembourg car. It´s a country that a lot of people are really curious about and it´s great to represent them. People have this idea of lots of money and it being a small country, but that creates a lot of interest. In Luxembourg itself there is a lot of interest in this, which is really good. For me it’s a really good project, there is the support there. I think in Belgium it would be difficult to have the same support.”

Vervisch made his Superleague Formula debut at Round 8 in Italy, in September last year. For a rookie driver he made a great impression and seemed to really take to the Superleague car. “Adria was my debut last season and it was pretty good as we made the Super Final, there was a lot to discover about the car. I like driving these cars now I know what to do, I´m not sure if it’s the power but I get on really well with them. My aims are high and I really hope to fulfill them, beginning this weekend.”
