Tottenham’s Craig Dolby believes he can become the first man to win all three Superleague Formula races at a single event when the championship visits Zolder this weekend.
The series leader saw his advantage halved to 30 points by AC Milan’s Yelmer Buurman last time out at the Nurburgring after finishing 10th and 6th, his worst results of the season.
But Dolby, who made his car racing debut at Zolder before working his way through Belgium’s junior motorsport ranks, is hopeful of re-establishing himself at the head of the field as the season reaches its half-way point.
“I personally love the place and think it’s wicked!” he said. “With a Superleague Formula car it’s very exciting, especially over the hill and into the woods; an unbelievable place to be. It’s fast in places but in others quite slow.
“It’s a very technical circuit which if you get right can really reward you. Everyone will be fairly quick around the first two-thirds but there’s a knack to getting the final sector right, so it’ll be very interesting. Last year I got knocked down to eighth at the first corner and still won.”
But along with his previous experience, Dolby’s chances of success have been boosted further by Alan Docking Racing stripping down and rebuilding the Spurs car since the last round in Germany.
“Hopefully our car’s sorted so we can show everyone who’s boss!” added the Englishman. “Last year I should have won both races. We would have been the first to do that so this time I’m going out there for the hat-trick. This is one of the circuits where I know it can be done.”
